Corporation Critique

The Corporation Critique

What is the principal purpose of this documentary?
The documentary show how a commercial (modernized) has been entitled to most of the some legal rights as to a real person. This is mostly shown in north america and is based on the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States

What does the film critique?
The film attempts to compare corporations to humans in the respect of, feeling, recklessly caring for others, lying and manipulative, respecting the law, and maintaining friendships.

What methods did the filmmaker use to increase public awareness about Corporate responsibilities and the affect on people and their beliefs and behavior?
The filmmakers interviewed real CEO's and different viewpoints from business gurus, which depending on the wording could affect how people think about and react to the corporations around the world.

Did you have any issues with this documentary? What were some parts that you did not agree with, or questions. Why?
No I didn't have any problems with the movie at all. I understood the different sides to the corporation world and how it affects people in different ways and that everyone has an opinion.

Video Game reflection

TECHNICAL

I learned how to use Adobe Flash for the first time and I found it easy to use once I got the flow of it. Also I learned how to change a video game through Adobe Flash.

IDEA OR CONCEPT

I had some different ideas for the project but the one I chose was to do a religion one because I though it would be fun. I found the name of different religions from around the world and copied them onto the flip side of the card and found more images for the background and on the back side of the cards.

 COMPOSITION

I tried to balance the text on all the cards so they would line up once you flipped over the cards to see if they matched up. I kept the colors basic so there wasn't too much going on. I made the cards transparent once they were flipped over so you could see the game background at the end once all cards were paired and gone.

MOTIVATION

I really wanted to see what the end product would look like and if it worked properly and smoothly without any glitching. Which it worked after the third time of trying to get it right.

CRITICAL ASSESSMENT

If I had more time I would have made the colours pop more than the blue, gray, and black I had. I was surprised at how easy it was to use the program after I got use to it. I thought the background was the most interesting to me because it shows different religions from around the world and what the symbols are too.

Spirited Away Critique

1. Spirited Away incorporates many elements from classical Western literature and folklore: people who magically turn into pigs (the Odyssey); the hero’s quest; the prohibition against eating the food of the Faerie (Irish folklore); a girl who goes to Grandma’s house (“Red Riding Hood”); the need to solve riddles. Do these familiar elements make the story easier to understand, or does their appearance in a Japanese film make them too alien to be helpful?

I don't think the western literature and folklore make the film alienated. I think adding the western parts in to the film make it somewhat easier for kids to understand what’s going on and possible what might happen next if they are from the western part of the world and also to the Japanese kids because the Japanese do tell about the western folklore to their young kids

5. Does it make sense to think of bodies of water as possessing spirit? Have you ever had a relationship with a river, a pond, an ocean, or the rain that prompted you to speak to water? Have you ever been rescued by a body of water? Have you ever cleaned a body of water?

Yes, I think it does make sense to think of bodies of water as possessing spirits. When it rains, I clear my mind of stress and worry because I find the rain to be very peaceful and calming. I just talk to myself out loud about what's on my mind and I don't even think what I'm saying I just let it all come out. And soon enough I feel better and as if someone was listening to me and didn't ask questions afterwards.

  Religion
I want to represent each religion through their corresponding symbols and have the matching card with what they worship/believe in

  Cliques in schools
I want to represent cliques in schools by having the card show what each clique could be with a symbol like a jersey for jocks/hockey kids

Art Movie reflection

Make your own Art Movie
Premier Pro
04/14/15

New technical developments that I learned were how to over lay two different clips to make one
flowing clip with something in front of it, ie flames and an old building to show that the building is
on fire and will burn down. Also how to add music to all the clips and how to mute music already on
clips.

Ideas that I used for the final product was a man stepping out of a car and another older man seeing him and having a flashback to the man setting a building on fire and people running away from the building and the man shaken out of the flashback and looking at the man while other people notice him and have a stocked/surprised expression on their faces.
My ideas changed a bit as I added music to it for added effect, a baby in a carriage rolling away from the building,  and a man yelling to whoever hears him to stop the baby from rolling and possibly getting hurt.

The emphasis is more on the burning building and baby because I wanted the viewer to see the flames and sparks from the building and the baby rolling away and the man yelling for help for the baby. This emphasis brings the viewers eyes to watch the flames and sparks in the few scene that they are in. Also to bring the viewer to wonder if the baby will be ok in the end of the movie or not. The movement works with the clips to make it flow more properly and almost like it should be there all along.

Personal motivation for the work was to see how to actually work Premier Pro as I have not used this program before and wanted to see what it was all about. Also to explore how to blend two different clips because that for some reason really caught my attention and curiosity.

I found that the blending of two different scenes were interesting a very easy to do. Some parts that surprised me were the blending and on how it can make the movie really come all together and look more interesting and eye grabbing. With additional time I would have made the movie met the one minute mark, as I didn't met that mark. Also I would have added more clips in it to make the story more interesting and made the viewer question what happens next.

Creating your own Art Film

My favourite part of battleship Potemkin is the men yelling and looking shocked as the baby carriage is falling down the stairs.

My favourite part of Metropolis is the man at the end showing a fearful face and pushing his body very close to the wall behind him.

My favourite part of Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid is the ending were the detective is boarding the train and the bag gets stuck to the bottom of his shoes and he tries to take it off with his other foot.

For my movie, I would like to show the man stepping out of the car, and then a different man being shocked once the man steps out of said car and sees him, then people running away from a burning building which is going to explode, and after show more faces of horrified people once the man looks behind him.

I'll be using clear clips of a smoke effect overlaid in my film to show the beginning and end of the man’s flashback to a burning building which he remembers escaping from. I’ll also use clips of flames and explosions to show the burning building that it will soon explode at the end of the movie. Also filters that look old, crackled, and a pop spatter look to blend the clips to together to make them look like they all belong to one specific time point. I’ll also try and use coloured filter to show that some parts are in the present time and black and white to show that some is to be in the past.

How is Hero an Art Movie?

Question 1:
Hero could be considered an art movie by one, the movie is very focused on the dream of Nameless, who wants to assassinate the King of Qin. Another way Hero shows that  it could be an art movie is by having the scenes made in mixed order, so the sequences of the movie don't have an exact start, middle, and end. The last way Hero could be an art movie is the tone of the movie is serious and not to be taken as funny or in a comical way.

Question 2:
How the director made Hero a movie for everyone is by having the viewer somehow wanting to see what happens next by leaving a mini cliff like hanger at the end of the three different stories of the King's three greatest enemies. Also, the director has the fighting scenes made in an interesting way and not just straight forward and have lots of blood and gore like things happen, instead the fighting in a way was peaceful and mystifying. Another way the director made the movie for everyone is by having the movie made in a way that the historic parts in the movie weren't boring and didn't drag on.

Question 3:
I really loved the movie Hero. Why I liked the movie was for one I love foreign language movies, so Hero was a very enjoyable movie for me. Also I liked how the movie was made and it to me was very well thought out and planned. Another reason why I liked the movie was the use of colours, like in the scene where Broken Sword and Flying Snow is at the King's palace fighting him surrounded by drapes the colour of green.

Question 4:
How Zhang Yimou made the colours emphasized in the scene where Broken Sword and Flying Snow are attacking the King is by having the drapes in green a very key aspect part in that scene by having Broken Sword dressed in green to match the drapes so he could hide in among them when he was fighting the King and made the king in a way panic because he couldn't find Broken Sword til he stepped out from behind them. Also the colour green in Chinese means many different things and one of the means is patience vs anger and to me patience is the King and anger is Broken Sword. Another way that the colour green was used effectively in the attack scene was sensitivity, both Broken Sword and Flying Snow were very sensitive during this because both wanted the King assassinated for all the wrong he has done.

Assignment #1

Memories in my Skin
  • First trip out of the country
  • Going to cape Cod Massachusetts, U.S.A
  • Picking up lots of sea shells

Salty breezes and cool skies

It was my very first time out of Canada, actually my first time even out of Ontario. My family and I went to Cape Cod Massachusetts, U.S.A. for a summer vacation back in 2006. Every morning I would wake up and inhale the scent of the salty air flowing all around me. I loved it so much, being so close to the sea, just steps away from me. Being in Cape Cod was an awesome experience and I really would like to go back again to see the different scenery and to take more high quality pictures of different things.

The beach was really beautiful, especially at sunset and sunrise. The colors in the sky at those times were incredible. Once in the water you had to keep your mouth closed if you went underneath the water, because it was the ocean so it was saltwater and believe me the water doesn't taste good if you accidentally get some in your mouth. So of course I only swam twice the whole two weeks we were there because I really hated getting saltwater in my mouth and almost every time I swam I opened my mouth by accident. The sand was really a pain and also the seaweed because both would go everywhere on you and in the belongs you had brought. I remember it traveling all the way back to the cottage at one point.

While I was there I had to have picked up over 100 seashells because every time I looked down I found a seashell that I loved and wanted to take back home with me. My mum told me before we left to go back home I had to find somewhere to store them because they weren't allowed in the car in plastic bags just in case the bag broke and have the shells go everywhere in the car possibly. So in the end I had filled up four coffee containers and two of the containers lids couldn't close properly so I had to use four rubber bands and try to close the lids that way because I didn't want to leave any behind. Some of the seashells that I picked up were broken or missing the other half of it, like the clams that I picked up some didn't have the top half. The shells were all different colors too like, light purple, blue, dark blue, and white.
